St. Elizabeth

St. Elizabeth is also known as the bread basket parish of Jamaica and currently produces more than 20% of the island's domestic food needs, through fruits and vegetables, poultry, beef, and tubers. The parish was named in honor of Lady Elizabeth Modyford, wife of Sir Thomas Modyford, Governor of Jamaica between 1664 and 1671 and it is one of Jamaica's oldest parishes.
